To get to Harnas from the Namibian capital of Windhoek, one should drive along the B6 Trans-Kalahari Highway that connects Namibia with South Africa via Botswana. Gobabis lies 202km from Windhoek. Upon entering Gobabis on the road from Windhoek, turn left at the first 4-way stop. Drive 8 km towards the Buitepos border post through Gobabis using the opportunity to top up your cars’ fuel, buy some biltong (a local pickled meet delicacy) and get some necessities like insect repellent and sunscreen lotion. Continue out of Gobabis towards the Botswana border. At a distance of 5.1km from the last four way intersection the sign “Harnas Lion Farm” will be on ones’ left. Take the first road immidiately after this sign also to your left, this is the C22 and is 45km tarmac up to the small town of Drimiopsis. From Drimiopsis until one reaches Harnas is gravel road. This road is kept in good condition and one can easily drive it with a sedan athough during the rainy season it is advised to enquire about the roads condition. The following sign “Harnas Lion Farm” will be on the left at 45.6km. Turn right immediately after this sign. Keep left at the Y junction at 53km with the Harnas sign also on the left.
The entrance to Harnas is at 92.5km where a big gate and a guard will welcome you. The guard will give you a guestbook to sign-in. Once on the farm one should drive slow and keep an eye out for free roaming wild animals. There is a sharp turn left at 98.8km to watch out for. There is another gate at 102.5km through which one passes. Turn right onto the airstrip at 103.1km, following it to it’s end.
Take the slight turn right and drive across a small wooden bridge and park under the canopy directly in front of you. After parking your car, walk over the large wooden bridge and continue to the lapa, the arge thatch-roofed building to your right. Here you wil be welcomed by our receptionist and can grab a refreshing drink before being shown to your chalet or camp site.
