All film and photography crews that intend to film in Namibia are required to adhere to the following procedures:



Step 1: Permission to film in Namibia

Any film/photography request must be accompanied by a written “Application Letter” addressed to the Namibia Film Commission (NFC). The letter should include the following information.

•A synopsis or script of the film project

•Exact dates of entry and exit of the crew in Namibia

•Exact number of crew

•Exact locations where the filming or photography is intended to take place

•Any other technical information that the film project might need assistance from any other institution in the Republic of Namibia

•The application must be lodged at least three weeks prior to the date of the intended filming/photography shoot.

Step2: Work Visa

All foreign crew working in Namibia should have a valid temporary work visa to work on a film crew in Namibia. The applicants should fill out a form from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration entitled “APPLICATION FOR VISA”.

The completed forms together with the Permission to Film in Namibia obtained from the NFC as well as proof of payment and copy of passport should be returned to our (Namibia Film Commission) offices by fax.

The amount required for a visa with a validity of up to three months is
N$ 390.00 and N$ 790.00 for a multiple entry visa with a validity of up to six months. These amounts should be deposited into the bank account of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The bank details of the Ministry of Home Affairs are as follows:

Filming in National Parks & Resorts

Please take note that filming in National Parks requires permission from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Film or Photography crews wishes to film in National Parks, should fill out a form entitled “APPLICATION FOR THE CREATION OF VISUAL, AUDIO OR AUDIO VISUAL RECORDINGS AND PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN PARKS OF THE MINISTRY”

Filming of Minority Groups

Filming or taking of professional photographs of the minority groups in Namibia, specifically referring to the Himba or San tribes should obtain permission from the Legal Assistance Centre, which is the custodian of these groups.
